About Kurt
I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I played high school football, track and golf. I went to college at the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1982 with a BS degree in Zoology. I attended the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1983 to 87. Before medical school, I accepted a Health Professions Scholarship from the Air Force, which paid for my medical school education completely. I then performed an internship in Milwaukee at St. Joseph's Hospital, then an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1988 to 1993. I was selected as Chief Orthopaedic Resident for my last year of residency. After graduating, I completed my obligation to the US Air Force at Davis-Monthan AFB. While there, I served as Orthopaedic Clinic Chief. I separated as a major and joined a private orthopaedic surgery practice in Milwaukee. After two years there, I was offered a job with Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic in Raleigh. I subsequently left there to help start Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Associates in Raleigh with two other partners from my former group. I learned a tremendous amount about leadership and business development there and served as President. Our group has just merged with Triangle Orthopaedic Associates in February of f2007, making our new group the largest orthopaedic group in the Triangle area.
I was married to my wife, Lori, in 1983, Lori taught middle and high school Spanish in Wisconsin for 10 years and now teaches at Language Tots, a multi-language preschool. She also has developed and sold a pre-school Spanish teaching curriculum based on her experience. We have five children: Kirsten, 20, a junior at the University of North Carolina, Erik, 18, a freshman at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, Alex, 14, in high school, and our twins, Andrew and Brett, 11, who are in middle school. I have participated in sports my entire life, the highlight being playing for a national champion touch football team while in my residency in Milwaukee. I continue to golf on a regular basis.

About Clay
I was born and raised in the mountains of Canton, North Carolina. I was raised on a farm and forged my work ethic in chopping fire wood and hauling hay. In grade school I played football and baseball. I made the All-Star team every year I played baseball and made the starting squad every year I played football. My junior year of high school I joined the golf team. The next year our team won the State Championship. After leaving Pisgah High School, I attended North Carolina State University and obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Golf Management with a minor in Business Management. While at NC State I excelled in the classroom, making the dean's list numerous times. I completed 16 months worth of internships at places like Walt Disney World, the Carolina's Golf Association, Raleigh Golf Association, and Laurel Ridge Country Club. I also completed all the requirements for becoming a PGA golf professional which consisted of completing binders of book work, passing three levels of testing, and passing a playing ability test. No matter how much golf I played, I always made time to get into the gym as much as I could.
During all four years of my college career I never missed a chance to better myself in the gym. I woke up every morning thinking about my workout for the day and what meals I was going to eat. I never thought that I would be able to channel my passion into something that embodies my philosophy. Prior to become General Manager at Athletic Nation, my eyes had been firmly fixed on the future which in my case was professional golf. I had a strong background in business operations as well as golf management and my likely career path was to become a head professional. I chose to become a part of the Athletic Nation because I thrive on pushing myself to the limit and I believe in the cause. Although my profession was golf, my passion rested with the iron and that is why I am here. An Athletic Nation Gym is exactly what I always envisioned an ideal gym to be; a man's gym, a place where there are no distractions, no tanning beds, no soap operas, no excuses, just weights, sweat, and achievement. I look forward to the opportunity to transform the bodies of men and in turn, their lives.
